Berkman + Shapiro Orthodontics Offers Free Orthodontic Treatment to Outstanding Teacher

Practice Holds Essay Contest, Offers Free Treatment to Winning Educator

Berkman + Shapiro Orthodontics announces the start of their Outstanding Teacher of the Year essay contest, a first for the practice, to coincide with National Teacher Appreciation Day, May 8th. The winning teacher will receive free comprehensive orthodontic treatment for themselves or an individual of their choice. See the instructions and entry form HERE. The contest asks that students submit an essay describing why their teacher is outstanding and should receive the award, detailing how the teacher has inspired the student and created a positive impact in their community.

Drs. Berkman and Shapiro both have a commitment to and passion for education. Both serve as faculty at the University Of Michigan School Of Dentistry in the Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry department. “My life has been profoundly affected by my teachers.” said Dr. Berkman. When asked why the contest was created, Dr. Berkman said “The goal of this contest is to call attention to the work of the K-12 teachers in our community.  Our patients share stories about their teachers with us all the time! In partnership with a student, we want to give something big back to a very special teacher.”

The contest opens on April 9th and is set to run through April, with winners announced on May 2. The practice noted that the contest is open to the entire local community and hopes to see a large number of essays from all students – patients or not. “This is something we’re very excited about. We work closely with local schools and organizations in our community, but we have never offered a prize like this before.” said Dr. Shapiro.
